According to survey interviews conducted by networking firm Adtran, profits are being earned by companies deploying gigabit broadband. Among the survey’s participants, more than half said that their revenue streams are positively enhanced by the gigabit services they provide, with several respondents citing gigabit as a “competitive differentiator,” while also bringing more interest to other network services.
For comparison, Adtran noted that two years ago, the biggest reason companies deployed gigabit was to keep up with future customer demand. Now, the main reason for deployment is the threat of competition, with nearly 70% of those surveyed saying that the greatest motivation for providing gigabit was the threat of rival companies getting there first. However, the expanded gigabit service landscape has resulted in other positives, as well, including improvements in healthcare, economic development, and local education, while allowing users to telecommute and enjoy enhanced media streaming.
