Top Uses for Smart Speaker Voice Assistants
According to Parks Associates State of the Market: Smart Home and Connected Entertainment, 28% of US broadband smart speaker owners use voice assist to control a smart home device. On the other hand, only 12% currently use their smart speaker to control an entertainment device. “The entertainment ecosystem is lagging a bit in the voice control area, even though 45% of U.S. broadband households see voice control of the TV as appealing,” said Jennifer Kent, Parks Associates Director of Research Quality & Product Development.
Kent further said “Voice-based technologies experienced massive growth in the past five years, by alleviating complexity in the user experience and delivering key use cases in control of smart home devices.”
The study also measured the use of other smart speaker voice assistant activities including: listening to audiobooks, playing games, and shopping or buying goods or services.
Additional findings:
- 45% of US broadband households own a connected health device.
- By 2021, more than 6 million US consumers will use personal emergency response systems (PERS) devices.
- The report suggests that 40% of US broadband households would pay for at least one home-living service. 20% are interested in a home living service that notifies family in case of emergency.
