Streaming Pay TV Services Increase Overall Video Consumption in the US
Leichtman Research Group, Inc. recently performed an online survey of 6,947 US households for their study, Internet-Delivered Pay-TV Services.
In their study, LRG reported that 11% of 18-44 year-olds in the US subscribe to a streaming pay-TV service, whereas only 3% of adults 45 and older pay for this type of service. In addition, 18-34 year-olds make up 53% of the US adult population that pay for a live streaming service (such as DirecTV Now, Hulu with Live TV, PlayStation Vue, Sling TV, or YouTube TV).
Other findings include:
- Of those that subscribe to a streaming pay-TV service, 93% also subscribed to video on demand services from Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime.
- Forty-nine percent of those that subscribe to a streaming pay-TV service also have an antenna to watch OTA broadcast TV.
- Thirty-five percent those that subscribe to a streaming pay-TV service also subscribe to a traditional pay-TV service (cable, Telco or satellite).
- Twice as many adults who moved within the year have Internet-delivered pay TV service than those who did not move.
