The next generation of smartphones is about to emerge, boasting faster speeds and lower latency, according to Strategy Analytics. The tradeoff is that devices will be larger and more power-hungry, with few performance upgrades for most applications.

As with all technology transitions, 5G smartphones will improve to adapt to the speed and latency advantages. The price of first generation 5G smartphones may run around $750 wholesale, $1,000 in-store retail. As sales and volume take off and the technology evolves, the prices are expected to decline marginally.
