Pew Research Center: Public Attitudes Towards Technology Companies
In a recent study, Pew Research reported that a sizable number of Americans believe that digital technology companies privilege the views of certain groups over others. Around 43% of Americans feel that major technology firms support the views of liberals over conservatives, and around 33% believe that these companies support views of men over women.
Additionally, in light of the current debate over the power of digital technology companies and the way they do business, abound 72% of Americans believe it is likely that social media platforms actively censor political views with which they do not agree.
This study was performed using the American Trends Panel (ATP), a nationally representative panel of randomly selected U.S. adults created by Pew Research Center and recruited from landline and cell phone random-digit-dial (RDD) surveys. Panelists are allowed to participate via monthly self-directed web surveys.
